In recent years, Human activities due to the fast urbanization and population
growth have caused serious damage to the near surface environment around
the world, resulting in frequent geohazards, which bring huge lost to
people’s lives and property. It is a challenge to avoid such damage while
keeping a high rate of economic growth.
As a branch of geo?physics, near-surface geophysics can be effectively
applied to the detection and assessment of rock-soil slopes, ground deforma?tion,
mine disasters, dam damage, land and water conservation, and protection
and improvement of the environment. The geophysical techniques used are
non-intrusive, non-destructive, cost-effective, large-scale or small-scale,
and can remotely acquire three- and even four-dimensional data that repre?sent
underground structures. Due to broad applications of geophysical techniques
in the environmental and engineering fields, they are of great significance
for the sustainable develop?ment of the human society.
We are pleased to be hosting the 5th International Conference on Environment
and Engineering Geophysics in Changsha, China, on June 15-18, 2012. It
is our pleasure to invite you to participate in this exciting event and
to enjoy the hospitality of Changsha.
This conference is designed to be a wonderful opportunity for all attendees
to share your knowledge, experience, and friend?ship. We strongly believe
that you will find great value in your participation in the conference
and exhibits. Mark your calendar now. Welcome to Changsha!
